Day One, Engine Compartment
Irvine Meadows West RV Park, Irvine, California
February 19, 1990
The classic family-sedan mill: A 200,000-mile 195-horse 283 Chevy
V8, complete with 2-barrel carb, non-functional air conditioning (probably
died while LBJ was still in office), and bad oil rings. Still, it
always started and managed to get the car going to 80 or so. The
283 was clearly not long for this world, but I was already making plans
for The New Engine.
