Here's the scene at the Richard M. Nixon Museum and Birthplace on the day after
Nixon's death. This is just a tiny portion of the flowers, candles,
heartfelt notes, etc. that were placed there by the thousands of Orange
County residents that visited the RMNM&B during their spontaneous outpouring
of Grief. Below is a photo I shot in the parking lot of Pick-N-Pull
Auto Wrecking of an apparition which, to this day, attracts the sick and
infirm to the sacred site, hoping for the healing touch of St. Nix to cure
them.
Not only was I at the Nixon Museum and Birthplace right after he died,
I was there on the day, four years earlier, that they opened the
place. Four Republican Presidents (Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush)
were there to give speeches, but I didn't get to see them on this glorious
day. No, the Secret Service wanted me to go away. Note the
look of steely contempt in the SS man's eyes. Also note the welcoming
smile of the grandmotherly Nixon Volunteer inside the door. Finally,
note the porcine pink-shirted Orange County Nixon fan at left- they let
him in.
