Bake for a weekend on the Buttonwillow Raceway track. End result: a race car that can&#8217;t get cooling air to the engine, stuffs 12 pounds of boost into hardware that was stressed out at about 45 horsepower, and redlines the tach at any speed above a brisk walk. Hey, what happens when the carburetor leans out at full throttle?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-02.jpg\" alt=\"turbobeetle-02\" title=\"turbobeetle-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"456\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-02.jpg 600w, https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-02-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><br \/>\nAs it turned out, the Team-ing With Bad Ideas Beetle <em>didn&#8217;t<\/em> overheat, nor did it burn holes in all the pistons, shoot rods into the next area code, or simply disappear in a giant fireball. What <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.24hoursoflemons.com\/viewtopic.php?id=7246\"><em>did<\/em> happen<\/a> was a contact incident that destroyed one of the tall rear tires, which meant that the team had to install smaller-diameter tires, which exacerbated the screamin&#8217;-engine revs problem. Still, Team-ing With Bad Ideas didn&#8217;t give up!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-07.jpg\" alt=\"turbobeetle-07\" title=\"turbobeetle-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-07.jpg 600w, https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-07-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><br \/>\nThat is, they didn&#8217;t give up until something terrible happened with the engine. Turns out that all the 7,000 RPM madness caused some of the cylinder head nuts (that&#8217;s right, <em>nuts<\/em>) to back out, with predictably unpleasant results.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-09.jpg\" alt=\"turbobeetle-09\" title=\"turbobeetle-09\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-09.jpg 600w, https:\/\/murileemartin.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/turbobeetle-09-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><br \/>\nThe team then spent the rest of the weekend beating their heads against the immovable object that is a broken ghettocharged Volkswagen engine.
