The Engine Swap Begins
Irvine Meadows West RV Park, Irvine, California
August, 1990
Here I am, just starting the job and already pouring sweat. The new
350 long-block is sitting on a plywood in front of my trailer. Already,
the gravel "front yard" of Trailer #B7 has started to gather car parts
and beer cans. The true property-value-lowering extravaganza has
hardly begun at this point, however. I believe that Jacques Derrida,
in his taxpayer-funded mansion on the hill overlooking the trailer park,
was glued to his binoculars, carefully studying each turn of every bolt.
I expected him to show up and offer to work the cherry-picker as I pulled
the oil-burning 283 out; unfortunately, he never showed up.
