350 in the Car, With Quadrajet
Irvine Meadows West RV Park, Irvine, California
August, 1990
After a few weeks of working an hour or so each day, savoring the property-value-loweringness
of it all, the 350 was in the car. A quick trip to the Pick-Your-Part
in Wilmington netted me a cast-iron 4-barrel intake from a 1973 Monte Carlo
(originally installed on a 1967 295-horse 327, according to the part number
cast in it, this intake got me a decent sum from a numbers-matching fanatic
restoring an old El Camino) and a Quadrajet carburetor off a 1970 Buick.
The engine was still not running at this point (the old distributor disappeared
at some point during the swap process, so I had to buy an HEI unit from
a '76 Nova to replace it) but it was close.
