Unununium Legend of LeMons honoree Spank probably needs no introduction, not after his crazed Citroën road trip and other exploits, so when you see a Simca 1204 at a California LeMons race… well, you know who’s probably responsible.
Since Spank brought the turbocharged Mini and the Mini Moke (converted from lunar rover to Fiat 600, which we’ll admire in a later post) to the Sears Pointless race, he didn’t quite have time to have his Chrysler of Europe product ready in time. Here it is undergoing tech inspection about two hours from the checkered flag on Sunday.
Le Mopar!
Is that a numbers-matching, factory-original Chrysler 1118cc engine? Come on, Mopar fanatics, you know it’s just as much a Chrysler as a Super Bee!
The Henri Cuda wasn’t ready to race until about ten minutes before the checkered flag, but it did manage to get a few laps before the all-important congratulations-from-the-judges ritual. We look forward to seeing this fine machine race all weekend at the Goin’ For Broken race at Reno-Fernley in May.

One of my all time favorite cars, and also one of my first automotive memories…
Spank is awesome.
(incidentally, I think this car was the highpoint of my career as a Jalopnik tipster:
